Joyce worked at Square D & CSA in Toronto. When she moved to Acton in 1975, she started work at Beardmore Leather Tannery until it closed in 1986. She then retired and spent time with her husband, Alex, until his death in 1996. Grandchildren became her world. Joyce felt so lucky to have lived in Acton for 49 years and spoke of this often. This town has been amazing and every person she met received one of her special hugs. She resided in the same apartment building for 42 of those years and had befriended so many of the residents (too many to name). She enjoyed the visits and special care everyone took with her.
Joyce had a passion for swimming from a young age at the Fergus Outdoor Pool to the Elora Gorge where she loved to dive from the top. She continued her swimming with the Acton Aqua Ducks Masters and then on to the Aqua Fit group through the Halton Hills Recreation Centre in Acton where she swam 3 times a week up until December 2024. This was her swim family – where she was a competitive aqua fit participant. She loved all of you and especially enjoyed coffee time afterwards and get-togethers for group celebrations. The Staff of Acton Swimming Pool were also like family to her and treated her like their pool grandmother!
Joyce spent over 40 years engaging in many different forms of Art. From sewing, knitting, macrame to paper tolle, folk art and oil painting. She tried it all and loved each one and the family will be left with many of these treasured items to cherish. Joyce spent much time visiting & chatting with staff at Mink Hair Lounge, Rexall Pharmacy, Sobey’s, TD Bank, Whistle Stop, Head2Toe, McDonald’s, and with Mabel her PSW – she adored you all!
Thank you to Dr.’s Burke and Bertic, Nurse Mustafa and staff at Trillium Hospital, Mississauga Site, who were there to support mom and family. Thank you to Dr. Rana Abboud at Acton Medical Centre – you were such a blessing in your care of Joyce, and she appreciated you so much!! Also thank you to the staff of Acton Medical Centre and the Rexall Pharmacy.
