In Loving Memory of Joanne Mary Carver
May 24, 1944 – March 29, 2026
Joanne Mary Carver (née Petruka), was the beloved wife of 60 years to her devoted husband, Allan, whose love for her began the day they met in her family’s restaurant in Cainsville. Together, they created a love story rooted in joy, resilience, and a commitment that stood the test of time. She was the cherished mom of Jason (Lisa) and Tiffany (Sang Tran), and the proud grandma of Cara, Cam, and Jack, each of whom she loved with a tenderness and joy that shaped their lives. She was the eldest sister to Rita (the late Bob McIntyre), Mona (Richard Campbell), and Dale (Paul Schoffro), a loving sister in law to Pat Cummerson, and a beloved Aunt Jo to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Clarice and Stanley Petruka, whom she spoke of often and with great affection.
Joanne’s essence was unmistakable. She was kind, warm, and endlessly curious, someone who could talk to anyone, anywhere, about anything. A philosopher at heart, she saw beauty in the world, and she shared that beauty generously. Whether you had known her for decades or met her in line at the grocery store, she made you feel seen, welcomed, and valued.
Her interests were as varied as her talents, and she moved through life with enthusiasm and joy. She was the queen of kitchen dance parties, the keeper of Sunday dinners, and the caretaker of gardens that bloomed under her gentle hands. She took care of everything and everyone, all the time.
Joanne embraced many roles throughout her life, including realtor, secretary, and County of Brant councillor. But Teacher, was her calling. She loved her students deeply and spoke of them with fondness even fifty years later. Her passion for learning and her belief in the power of knowledge inspired everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Over the years, Joanne faced many health challenges with unwavering courage including three separate battles with cancer. Her fourth diagnosis came suddenly and was too aggressive to overcome. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional doctors, nurses and staff at the Brantford General Hospital.
Joanne leaves behind a legacy of kindness, curiosity, and unconditional love. She taught her family to care for others and themselves, to listen deeply, to offer advice gently, and to love without hesitation. She will be missed beyond measure and remembered with love, always.
A celebration of Joanne’s life will take place on Sunday, May 3rd, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at The Sherwood Restaurant, 799 Colborne St. E., Brantford. A service of remembrance will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by a reception with light refreshments and time to gather, share stories, and honour her memory together.
