Henry Kruis
September 13, 1933 – January 28, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hendrick Jan Kruis (Henry), who passed away peacefully at the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home in Simcoe, Ontario, on January 28, 2026, at the age of 92.
Henry was born on September 13, 1933, in the Netherlands. At the age of 17, he immigrated to Canada with his parents and siblings, beginning a new life marked by hard work, perseverance, and opportunity. As the second oldest of eleven children, Henry learned responsibility early, working as a teenager on horseradish and tobacco farms in the Delhi and Tillsonburg area.
A proud farmer, Henry dedicated much of his life to caring for the land and providing for his family. He married the love of his life, Lois, on May 10, 1958, and together they built a life in Caledonia, Ontario, where Henry was a Pork Producer and was known for his strong work ethic and love of simple pleasures.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife Lois and their four children: Jerome (Lorri), Jan (Christina), Jim (Danielle), and Jayne (Wayne). He was predeceased by their infant daughters, Norma Jean and Mary Jane.
Opa will be fondly remembered by his 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Henry was a jokester at heart—always ready with a playful trick or happy to serve as a jungle gym for his grandchildren. He was strong and kind, with wisdom well beyond his years in politics, geography, world events, history, and farming. Above all, he loved his family deeply and created a legacy to be cherished.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Cedarwood Village Retirement Home and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home in Simcoe, Ontario.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Parish (211 Union Street, Simcoe, Ontario) on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00 am with refreshments and fellowship to follow in the adjacent parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Henry to Haldimand-Norfolk Community Senior Support Services, 230 Victoria Street, Simcoe, ON. www.seniorsupport.ca
Rest in peace, Henry. You will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by your family and all whose lives you touched.
