In loving Memory Lois Doty
Lois Doty (nee Cline)
1922 – 2025
With deep love and heavy hearts, we share that Lois Doty (nee Cline) passed away peacefully, having lived an extraordinary 103 years. She was blessed to celebrate this remarkable milestone surrounded by the love of her family and dear friends—an occasion filled with joy, reflection, and gratitude.
Lois leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Vernon Doty, and her brother Merlin. She is survived by her dear brother Ron Cline and sister-in-law Patricia Cline, as well as her cherished children Brian, Lance (predeceased), Deborah (Raven), and Kevin, along with their loving spouses. She was the proud grandmother and great-grandmother to many—far too numerous to name, yet each held a special place in her heart and life.
Born in St. Catharines to Lloyd Winfred and Nina Cline (née Gilks), Lois moved to Toronto at a young age. She attended Western Technical Commercial School and enrolled in the Arts program, where her creative spirit began to blossom. When the war began, Lois stepped up as a seamstress—demonstrating the quiet strength and resilience that would define her life.
In 1945, Lois married the love of her life, Robert Vernon Doty. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and devotion. Lois was a devoted homemaker who poured her heart into her family. She often said, with pride and purpose, “Yes, I most certainly do work, and more so.” Her loyalty, kindness, and honesty touched everyone she met. She was a woman of great integrity and an even greater heart—offering comfort, encouragement, and quiet wisdom to all who knew her.
A true artist at heart, Lois expressed her creativity through wool—crocheting comforters, throws, and children’s clothing with great care and attention to colour and design. Each stitch carried her warmth and love. One of her most treasured traditions was creating outfits for her grandchildren to wear home from the hospital—gifts that became family heirlooms.
Though she is no longer with us, her presence lives on in the lives she shaped, the love she gave, and the memories we carry. Lois will be deeply missed and forever remembered—with affection, admiration, and enduring gratitude.
A celebration of Lois’s life will be held on July 31, 2025, at the Bronte Boathouse, 2340 Ontario Street, Oakville, Ontario, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by interment at St. Jude’s Cemetery, 258 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, at 2:30 PM.
In honour of Lois’s generous spirit, the family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Yonge Street Mission or The War Amps—two organizations that reflect her values and compassion.
We always talk about the things people leave behind,
The books, the photos, the jewelry, the clothes,
My God, the clothes,
But what about the memories, the traces,
The disturbed dust on a beloved home movie,
The lipstick stains on an old coffee mug,
The mannerisms passed on to the children left behind,
The dust might gather again, and the lipstick be washed away,
Bu the children live on,
Left behind as reminders,
Of a beautiful person,
Who gave us so much of herself,
The even now we get to keep it.
Always in my heart Mom.
Lots of Love Debbie
