Peacefully on Monday January 16, 2012 in his 70th year, after a short illness at St. Josephs Hospital in Toronto. Loving husband of 42 years to Janice. Dear son in law of Bernice Akitt. Brother in law of Deby and Fred. Loving uncle of Janice Lynn, great uncle of Shane. Dearly missed by his aunt Jean Sholtz. Survived by his brother Calvin. At Ricks request cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

There are no words that I can find to describe the privilege I enjoyed in having Rick as my friend. He was a wonderful man and a great friend. He insisted that we got together at least once per month to celebrate friendship. When I was recovering from my illness in 2001, Rick called me, almost every day that year to offer me some cheer. I will miss Rick and I will miss a great friend. He brought a lot of joy into my life.

We will always carry Rick’s memory within our hearts. He was one of a kind friend. A friend who was so loyal that he never missed one week calling me and asking about the ” girls”, how I was doing and how the ” boy ( John) was doing. Every time he called, he would say … It must be Thursday!
