Eugene Shalay
June 9, 1944 – March 14, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene Shalay, age 81, who passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026.
Eugene was born on June 9, 1944, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His family later settled in Brantford, Ontario, where Eugene spent most of his life and proudly called home.
A quiet and private man, Eugene found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved computers, fishing, music and tinkering with almost anything electrical or mechanical; he seemed able to fix just about anything.
Eugene is lovingly remembered by his son Andrew Shalay of Brantford, Ontario, his daughter Kari (David) Patterson of Burlington, Ontario; and his son Jamie (Valerie) Shalay of Maple Ridge, British Columbia. He was a proud grandfather to Tori and Avery Patterson, and Kaitlyn and Zoey Shalay.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Anne Shalay, and his grandson, Tucker Patterson.
Eugene will be fondly remembered by his sisters, Kathy (Bill) Kostuk of London, Ontario, and Laurel (Ed) Karkut of Brantford, Ontario, as well as his many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Eugene’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Eugene’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society and would be sincerely appreciated.
Eugene will be remembered for his quiet nature, steady presence, and the simple moments he shared with those closest to him. He will be deeply missed.
