Doerwald, Axel Gunther
December 17, 1940 – August 25, 2025
Axel Doerwald, beloved husband to Mary Doerwald passed peacefully in his home in St. Catharines with family by his side in his 85th year. Cherished father to his daughters Lilian Doerwald-Munoz (Fabian), Christina Doerwald (Ivo), as well as a loving stepfather to George Manson (Michelle) and Tammy King (Ernie). He will be deeply missed by his 9 grandchildren, Matias, Stephanie, Marcos, Martin, Sophia, Christopher, Brody, Nolan, Curtis, along with 4 great-grandchildren. Dear brother to Gunnar, Ragnar, Bruno, and Carl. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Freida & Peter Doerwald, and his siblings, Arvid & Karin.
Axel was born in Germany, and following the war of 1945 he relocated to Montevideo, Uruguay, before he made Canada his home in 1963 until his passing.
Axel was diagnosed with inoperable brain tumor 2 years ago. He had gone through radiation which gave him some relief to enjoy 5 more months with his loving family and friends before passing.
His life was full of many wonderful memories, he enjoyed scuba diving, motorcycle riding, metal detecting and was a computer designer. He was an avid handyman, there was nothing he couldn’t fix or improve. He loved to travel, go camping and visit his family in Uruguay cherishing many happy moments with wife, family and friends.
In keeping with Axel’s wishes a Celebration of Life was held this past April while his daughter was visiting from Uruguay, where he enjoyed celebrating with all his family and friends. No further services will be held at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Tranquility Burial & Cremation Services (Niagara) Inc. Condolences can be shared at localhost:10299/
