David B. Dodds
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David B. Dodds, who died on June 29, 2025, just three days after his 51st birthday and 26th wedding anniversary. Born in Scotland in 1974, Dave spent nearly his entire life in Brantford, Ontario, a city he deeply loved and contributed to in countless ways.
Dave was a man of many hats and many stories — often told over a pint at McGonagall’s Pub, Steel Wheel Brewery, or Roxy’s Tap and Grill, where he met lifelong friends. Over the years, he brought his energy and skill to Bruce Power, Aecon, Dofasco, and even his own venture, “Fat Dave.” Whatever the job, Dave brought grit, good humour, and a knack for getting things done his own way — sometimes stubbornly, always memorably.
He was well known around town — in part because he went to three different high schools and somehow managed to be unforgettable at each one. Whether you knew Dave from school (most likely), work, the community, or just a chance encounter, you likely walked away with a story. Dave would happily give you the shirt off his back or make one for you when inspiration struck.
One of Dave’s greatest joys was spending time on Georgian Bay, a place that held a special piece of his heart. Times there were filled with simple pleasures—ice cream boat runs that brought laughter and sticky fingers, and daring swan dives off tall sun-warmed rocks into the cool, clear water. Those moments captured Dave’s adventurous spirit and appreciation for the beauty of nature and time spent with loved ones.
Above all else, Dave was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Tracey Dodds (née Westaway), his cherished daughter Morgan, his proud son Will, and his many fur friends, both present and dearly missed. Dave is also survived by his parents, Dave and Ann Dodds Sr., his in-laws, Jim and Nancy Westaway, as well as a large circle of extended family members. His love for his family knew no bounds. He took immense pride in their accomplishments, never missing an opportunity to share their successes with others.
Dave enjoyed the beautiful game of football and followed it casually throughout his life, always appreciating the flow and spirit of a good match. But it was music that truly moved him, especially the poetry and soul of The Tragically Hip. Their lyrics spoke to him in quiet moments and loud ones alike. Fittingly, and heartbreakingly, he passed away while listening to —It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken—a line that now echoes with even deeper meaning for those who loved him.
Dave’s entrepreneurial spirit, big heart, and irrepressible personality left a mark on everyone he met. He gave his time generously to his community and made friends wherever he went. His laugh, his stubborn debates, his bright orange jeep, his willingness to help, and his presence — larger than life — will be sorely missed.
A celebration of life will be held in Brantford, where family and friends will gather to share stories, raise a glass, and honour the life of a man who truly lived. Details to follow.
In the words of many who knew him: Everybody knew Dave. And now, everybody will miss him. Cheers!
We were so sorry to hear about Dave. We will always remember the special times spent with him, Tracey, Morgan and Will at Huron Island. Our hearts go out to your entire family. May the memories of those times and Dave’s wonderful spirit bring all of you comfort in the days ahead.
With love and deepest sympathy, Morleen and Joel Bousfield
I met Dave through ALS Canada. I didn’t have the chance to get to know him well but it was always nice to see him on our calls and hear what he had to contribute. He definitely brought a light to our group. This obituary is beautifully written and highlights how special Dave was. There are no words that can make this significant loss any easier but my thoughts and prayers are with everyone who loved Dave.
Tracey, Morgan and Will . So sorry for your loss of a loved husband and Father. Will be thinking of you. May Dave rest in peace.
