Joanne Elaine Cousineau (nee Harris)

Born May 23 1952 – Died February 24 2024

It is with the greatest of sadness that I announce that Joanne passed away peacefully and in no discomfort at Brantford General Hospital at 1:37 am due to complications associated with the illnes C.O.P D.

Joanne is survived by her spouse Steve (2005 to 2024) and 2 sisters Brenda Flaherty (Windsor) and Connie Harris (Lambeth) and her 2 children Ryan Flaherty (Grande Prairie AB) and Laurie Flaherty (Orillia) also by nephews Christopher and Family  and Sean and Family and niece Autumn McAllister and Grandson Coulson

I have had the gracious honor of being first her Beau (4 years) and then her spouse from 2005 to 2024 and never tired of telling how we met at a new years bash held in the summer by her lifelong friends Lynn and Bob. It was love at first site for me, not for her though, as I had arrived with another lady (best friend’s Wife) luckily I was given a second chance after an explanation was offered !!!.

Joanne was one of the kindest and caring person I have known and this served her well during her 27 years at Huronia Regional Center and her last 3 years at Whitby Mental Health Center.

During her time in Orillia, she raised two children, worked full time, bought renovated and sold real estate, supported her co-worker’s by becoming a member of the (OPSEU) bargaining committee, manned the picket line and pursued the hobby of antique furniture collecting with a passion!

Upon moving to Whitby Mental Health Center for the next 3 years until retirement .Joanne continued her dedication to her clients and became affectionately known as “Mighty Mouse” by her staff as despite being 5ft 3 inches and 100 Ibs. She was more than a match for any situation on her Ward.

Joanne waged a long and hard battle against the brutal illness (COPD) and fought right to the end.

Joanne will be very much “missed” by her family and her friend.  The laughs and the warm hugs exchanged, will be in our memories forever.

I plan to hold a gathering out our residence in Brantford around May 25 and 26 as Joanne’s Birthday would have been on May 23, I will update with exact Date ,time and direction’s by the middle of April.

Donations to the “Lung Health Foundation” would be welcome.
