March 4th, 1956 – May 26th, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Carl Burtwell, who departed this world on Monday May 26, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Surrounded by love and cherished memories, Mike, aged 69, left an indelible mark on the hearts of family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his life’s journey.

Born on March 4, 1956, in Hamilton, Mike was a shining example of kindness, wisdom, and resilience. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to helping others, earning admiration and respect from all who had the privilege of knowing him. Mike was a lover of golf, fishing, and hunting and found immense joy in life’s simplest pleasures—whether nurturing relationships, pursuing creative passions, or embracing the beauty of the great outdoors.

Mike’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He was the devoted and loving life partner of Lucille Howard, survived by her, her children and her grandchildren: Chris (Melissa) Howard and their children Brelynn and Taylor; Ryan (MaryLee) Howard and their daughter Evangeline; and Lana (Brett) Howard and their children Colby, Brooke, and Devon.

Mike’s legacy lives on through his two devoted daughters, Christina Connely and Andrea Burtwell, who stood steadfastly by his side. He was the loving grandfather to Carson, Kaila, Brooke, and Chloe, who will forever carry forward his heritage of love and kindness.

Mike is lovingly remembered by his siblings Rick (Robin) Burtwell, Roxy (Paul) Girodat, Roy (Kim) Burtwell, Bonnie Burtwell, Julie (Will) Tadeson, and Beverly (Glenn) Burtwell. His extended family includes 11 nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Verlie and his father Charles Burtwell, whose memories remain in the hearts of all who knew them.

Family, friends, and all who wish to pay tribute to his remarkable life are warmly invited to attend a commemoration in honor of his life and memory.  Celebration of life details for Mike will be shared at a future date.

As we bid farewell to Mike, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on in the countless lives he enriched. His love, kindness, and heartfelt laughter will forever echo in our memories. Farewell, dear friend, you will be missed deeply but never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Stedman Community Hospice in Mike’s memory.

His passing will be a daily loss in my life, as he has been my fishing, hunting, golfing and breakfast buddy for most of our adult life. I hope you are in Heaven with mom and dad, fishing by a beautiful stream. Love and miss you brother ❤️
