It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, dad grandad, and brother, Rick Bennett on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Stedman Hospice with family by his side.
Rick was born in Thorncombe, England on October 12, 1943. Rick immigrated to Canada over 50 years ago and lived in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario. Friendly Manitoba was a great place to live where Rick enjoyed watching his beloved Blue Bombers, golfed at Pineridge and South Interlake, and built and flew model aircraft with the Winnipeg Radio Control Club. He met many great friends along the way.
After retirement, Rick & Nancy decided to make a very important move to Brantford, Ontario where they could be closer to family. This was the best decision as Rick was able to be with his sons, play a little guitar and watch each of them perform in various bands around town!
Rick also volunteered and played golf at Arrowdale until it was closed, then was only able to golf a few more years at Fescues due to illness but enjoyed every minute of it with all his golfing buddies! Rick also continued to build and fly model aircraft with the Brant Flyers.
Rick is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Nancy (Connell), sons David (Sandra) of Brantford, Julian (Julie) of Drayton Valley and grandsons David and Devon of Brantford.
Sister Jane Shepard (Keith) and brother Terry Bennett (Georgie) of England. Brother-in-law Jim Connell of Burlington and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins on both sides of the Atlantic.
The family would like to thank Dr. S. Hotte and Dr. Sagar from JCC; Anthony, Becky, and Heather, the Speech Language Pathologists from St. Joseph’s Hamilton; Irena, Rick’s palliative care nurse and the very caring staff at Stedman Hospice.
A Celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to either Juravinski Cancer Centre or Stedman Hospice.
