September 22, 2025 | 3 Condolences

Antoinette (Netty) Marie Roos (nee Daems)
November 30, 1928 – September 17, 2025

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Netty Roos, beloved wife, mother, Oma, Groot Oma, and friend, who passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on September 17, 2025.

Born on November 30, 1928, in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, Netty lived a life full of love, adventure, and unwavering strength. Her journey spanned nearly a century, and in that time, she touched the hearts of all who knew her. A woman of grace and courage, Netty was known for her nurturing spirit and commitment to her family, who were her greatest joy.

Throughout her life, Netty had an immense appreciation for the simple pleasures — whether it was tending to her garden, making soup with leftovers, or sharing conversation over a cup of coffee. Her resilience and optimism were an inspiration to all, as she navigated both the joys and challenges life brought her way.

Netty was pre-deceased by her loving husband Peter Roos. She will be forever missed by her four children, Sylvia (Bill), Ingrid (Doug), Paul (Cathy), Corinne (Dawn). She was a beloved Oma to five grandchildren; Nicholas (Alexe), Caitlin (Mike), Colin (Meghan), Carly (Luke) and Quinn and proud Groot Oma to Zak, Zoé, Rowan and Everett. The youngest of four children, she was the adored little sister of Geert, Frans and An (all pre-deceased). She will be missed by relatives in The Netherlands; Angeline (Aamin), Otto (Naoko), the Oberendorff families, Bridget (Erik) and family.

In 1955, Netty left her position with KLM Airlines in The Netherlands to marry Peter and embark on a new life in Canada. As a farewell gift, her boss presented her with a return ticket, in hopes she might consider returning. After beginning their life together in Toronto, Peter and Netty moved to Clarkson, where they enjoyed many happy years. They embraced their new Canadian life, learning English and exploring the beauty of the country, proudly becoming Canadian citizens in 1960. Despite their patriotism, they both maintained a fondness for Dutch cheeseand chocolate!

When not busy managing the day to day life of her 4 children, Netty found time to be involved in the community; volunteering at almost every St Christopher’s church function, assisting the less fortunate and putting together the official Catholic Women’s league cookbook which is cherished by many to this day. Throughout her extensive involvement with her community of Clarkson, Netty made many lifelong friends.

As her children grew, Netty took on a part time role at the Credit Union where she developed a love of golf with her new co-workers. Throughout her life she played sports, especially golf, curling, tennis, skiing and skating. She also loved games, playing bridge, scrabble and countless card games, with a keen determination to win. Her grandchildren quickly learned to stay alert, or be subject to her creative rule-making. Her good spirits were infectious , and we often heard a cheerful, “Oh well,” when she lost.

Family and friends were the center of Netty’s life. They had many adventures together travelling to Europe, Montreal, cottages across Ontario and exploring southern Ontario’s parks and gardens on Sunday walks. She loved having her family around, cooking many Dutch specialties like Bahmi Goreng and Nasi. Her grandchildren delighted in traditional family treats like fresh white bread with butter and sugar or Hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles). There was
nothing quite like sharing a cup of tea and Speculaas at Oma’s.

As Netty aged she stayed in Clarkson, moving to the Walden Circle Retirement Community in 2015, where she is fondly remembered for her beautiful outfits, love of walking and playing bridge. The friendships she cultivated there enriched her life, and we are grateful for the dedicated support from the staff.

Netty was a remarkable role model—brave, strong, decisive, and independent. Her quick wit, fantastic sense of humour, and iconic raised eyebrow live on in many of her loved ones. Netty/Mom/Oma will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched and she will live on forever in our hearts.

As per her wishes a family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
