Louise Butryn (nee Looyen)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Louise Butryn (nee Looyen) on February 10th, 2026 just shy of her 96th birthday. She went peacefully at the Trillium Hospital when her body was unable to sustain her anymore. She is predeceased by her husband Maurice Butryn, her sister Jeanne Werker and daughter Karen Crocker (Robert), survived by daughters, Maureen Gordon, Annette Atkins (Robert), grandchildren Holly Gordon (Alex), Alexander Crocker, Madeline Atkins (Clara), great grandchildren Landon, Haydn and Oaklyn, Mia Ferguson her oldest and dearest friend of over 90 years as well as grand-fur babies Kobe, Buffy and Sophie.

She was born in Arnhem, Holland in 1930 and endured a young life surrounded by the 2nd World War. Her parents Gerrit Looijen and Cornelia van Dooren guided her and her sister through the difficult times. Our mother had a great love for all her Dutch friends and the country; she visited yearly for weeks at a time until she was not able too.  She made a good life in her new home in Canada with our father and their 3 children. Mom had an active life with the kids and then with a variety of roles ending in a full time volunteering role in the medical library at the Mississauga Hospital. Mom had many friends throughout her years in the neighbourhood and at her various roles. She spent her final years at The Regency Independent Living facility in Port Credit and had great support from friends and the very kind staff…special thank you to her PSW Mary, Donna for always being a friend, Marivic, Elaine, Jesusa, Rose, Charlotte, Rose, Salvana and all the others, they cared for her as well as our father and us and we are very grateful.

Mom’s wishes are the to be remember as she lived; remember her in your own way…She loved flowers, supported CNIB and the Parkinson’s Society in remembrance of our father…. Donate, plant a flower or give a flower to a friend…. Rest in Peace Mom…
