Foss, Terrence “George”

September 11, 2024 | 0 Condolences

George fought with resilience, hope and positivity and passed peacefully with family around him on August 4th, 2024.

He is deeply missed by all. George is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Harryette, daughters Cindy (Steven) Foss-Silveira, Shannon (Jeff Kueber) Fox, son Jim (Kasey Cripps), grandchildren Gabrielle (Sebastian) Burghardt, Lucas (Marlena) Silveira, Bailey (Randy Woodworth) Cripps, Jorge Fox, Payton Foss and Kylie Foss, great grandchild Valerie and sister Rosanne (Larry) Brokenshire. He is fondly remembered by many close friends including long-time high school friends John (Lee) McIlwraith and Mike (Jean) Morse. He is predeceased by father Red Foss and mother Susan (nee Bithel) Foss.

George was born in Galt. He attended local schools including Tait, Manchester, Glenview and Southwood. He enjoyed participating in sports and has a lasting image in his high school yearbook with a fat lip from football. He continued to enjoy football as a Tiger Cats fan. He played slo pitch for many years as a member of the Golden Nuggets.

George studied to be an accountant by correspondence and then achieved his B.B.A from Laurier in the 70’s. He became a Registered Management Accountant and worked at Dresser, Rockwell Automation, SC Johnson’s Wax, Consumers Glass and 3L Filters. He took the leap to become an entrepreneur in the 90’s engaging in co-ownership of 3L Filters. From that point he never looked back. He participated in several ventures including Allan Pipe, Liquid Flow, Protech, PW Custom Fab and finally Galt Filtration.

George’s passion was cars, particularly antique automobiles. He was known to identify year, make, model and distinguishing features even in a movie theater when a vintage car appeared on screen. He went to many car meets, swap meets and drive-in events. He fully restored 4 antique cars with the last one being a joint project with grandson, Payton.

He was an attentive husband, father and grandfather. He was interested in the achievements of his children and grandchildren and always had encouraging words. He attended Little Theatre, bowling, horse shows, dance recitals, ringette, soccer, football, hockey, and lacrosse games to cheer on the sidelines over the years. He worked with each of his children spending the last 20 years working with his son, Jim in Galt Filtration.

We know he is walking with his cherished dog, Daisy and friends, Leo and Doug in the afterlife. He is probably also cracking jokes bringing levity to the heaviness of his passing.

A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, September 29th, 2024 at the Royal Canadian Legion (Galt) Branch 121, 4 Veterans Way, Cambridge from 11am – 2pm. We can come together and share our stories of joy and impact that George brought to life. Anyone who wishes to make a donation in George’s name can donate to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital  or to Cancer Research.
