Bogoljub Lekic
March 20, 1933 – July 29, 2023
Bogoljub Lekic (ne Jankovic) passed peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital on July 29th, 2023 in Mississauga, Ontario at the age of 90.
Bogoljub is survived by his children Ivan and Olivera; daughter-in-law Karolina; sister Gradimirka; grandchildren Tiana, Andrej, Adrian, Mila and Petra as well as his extended family and friends who loved him and continue to carry him in their prayers and hearts.
Bogoljub Jankovic was born in Gradac, Serbia to parents Mikaijlo and Ruza on March 20, 1933. He was one of their 7 children: Vladimir, Bozidar, Milunka, Mila, Radoslav and Gradimirka. Mikaijlo was captured by Nazis during World War 2. Bogoljub was only 8 when he was taken into a state run orphanage.
Bogoljub was enlisted at a trade school to learn mechanical engineering. During that time he would meet the Lekic’s who adopted Bogoljub as their own. At the age of 18, Bogoljub developed life threatening tuberculosis and his story would likely have ended there had the Lekic’s not taken him to Belgrade for treatment saving his life.
With the help of his sister Gradimirka, Bogi moved to Canada in 1966. He started working at General Electric as a Tool and Die Maker then later at McDonnell Douglas Aerospace. He married Draga and brought her to Canada in 1975. The couple welcomed Olivera into the family in 1976 and Ivan in 1977.
His children remember him as kind, hardworking, principled, wise and extremely devoted to his family.
Bogoljub was passionate about wellness and his lifestyle included reading, healthy eating, listening to classical music, exercise and prayer on a daily basis. He was an active and devout member of the Serbian Orthodox church and attended the all Saints Serbian Orthodox Church regularly.
The funeral is scheduled for 11am at all Saints Serbian Orthodox Church at 2520 Dixie Rd on Mississauga followed by a burial at St. Johns cemetery next to his beloved Draga. A reception will follow at the All Saints Serbian Orthodox Church Banquet Hall at 1pm. Father Prvoslav Puric will officiate the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to All Saints Serbian Orthodox Church. Donations can be made in person or online using the link: https://www.sabornik.com/donate
