Muneer Sroor Bisharat
June 15, 1934 – March 9, 2024
Muneer passed away peacefully March 9th 2024 with family and friends by his side in Oakville Ontario. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Lucy (Gideon), his son Osama, his daughter in law Helen, and his beloved grandsons Jack, and Austin.
Muneer was born in Shatana, Jordan to parents Sroor Mousa Yousef Bisharat and Sedeh Jerious Salem Bisharat. He attended Al-Hussein Secondary College, the first school in Jordan and achieved a degree in Journalism from The Egyptian National Journalism College in Cairo, Egypt. He had a deep and abiding commitment to journalism and its role in a free and liberal society. Despite many challenges, Muneer established and operated a successful multinational transit and transport business for over three decades. His passion for journalism and media continued after he moved to Canada, serving as the Treasurer for the Canadian Arab Media Association and being involved in the Canadian-Arab community.
Muneer loved his faith, his country, his family and friends. He was well traveled, well spoken and generous of time and resources. He will be remembered for his joie de vivre, his larger than life personality, his love of good food and good company and a lively debate. A big man with an even bigger heart he will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Visitation and funeral service will be held March 16th, starting at 12:30pm at The Greek Orthodox Church of Prophet Elias (1785 Matheson Blvd, Mississauga, Ontario). Burial to follow at Glen Oaks Cemetery (3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, Ontario)
A memorial funeral in Jordan will be held March 17th at 4:00pm (local time) in The Presentation of The Lord Orthodox Church (18 Al-Besharah Street, Amman, Jordan)
