Omer H. Riel 1938-2021
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at the Cawthra Gardens Long Term Care Residence at the age of 82. Beloved father of Robert (Deborah)(d-2014), Michele (Derrick)(d-2006), and Suzanne (Dan). Cherished grandfather of Louis. Omer retired from Loram Maintenance of Way, Ltd after over 44 years in the railway industry.
He enjoyed renovating and landscaping and took great pride in his home. His love of dogs ensured that he was a constant companion to our family dog, Tusk. Many nights, he could be found in his favorite BBQ jacket, braving the elements. Christmas’s were made special by trips to visit relatives and the result was always laughter and high spirits. He greatly enjoyed and valued the time he spent playing with his grandson and even managed to keep up with him.
During retirement, he was able to visit and spend time with his children and their families. As he dealt with health problems later in life, he became known for his sense of humour and became an avid “arm-chair” sports enthusiast always familiar with the latest scores and standings of all Toronto sports teams. We are very grateful to all the staff at Cawthra Gardens for their excellent care and affection.
He will be greatly missed by his children, grandson, and extended family.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be a cremation and due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family funeral service will be held at the Sts Peter and Paul Parish, Mississauga on Monday, February 8, 2021, at 1 p.m.
Relatives and friends may join the family in the Livestream of the service available upon request.
