Schneider, Hugo

Hugo Schneider

December 9, 1931 – March 14, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, brother, Opa, uncle, and friend on March 14, 2025 Hugo passed away peacefully with his devoted wife, Irmgard, by his side. In his final days, he was surrounded by the love of his children and family, whose presence brought him comfort and warmth as he transitioned peacefully—leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love.

Born in Linz, Austria, Hugo immigrated to Canada in 1953, embracing a new life with determination and resilience. He settled in Sudbury, Ontario, where he began his career as a cabinet maker. It was during that time that he met and married the love of his life, Irmi, in 1961. Together, they built a life filled with love, eventually moving to Toronto, where they shared 64 wonderful years of partnership built on devotion, strength, and unwavering commitment to family.

Hugo dedicated 35 years of his career to REFF, now part of the MillerKnoll group, where his strong work ethic and unwavering dedication left a lasting impact.

An active man in every sense, Hugo found joy in mountain biking, skiing, swimming, walking, bowling, and cross-country skiing. His boundless energy, passion for life, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Hugo was a man of few words, but his sparkling eyes and ever-present willingness to help others spoke volumes.

Hugo is survived by his loving wife, Irmgard Schneider (née Miarginter), his children, Christian (Johana) and Wendy (Bill), and his adored grandchildren, Rebecca and Cole.

We take comfort in knowing that Hugo is now reunited with his brothers, including Rudy, who passed away just 46 hours after Hugo. Their bond was unbreakable, and now they are together once more.

Though he is no longer with us, Hugo’s legacy of love, strength, and adventure will live on in our hearts forever.

Arrangements for a celebration of life will be shared with loved ones at a future date.

Having grown up as a next door neighbour to the Schneiders, I was a close friend to Chris. I remember from an early age spending many weekends at their cottage in Moonstone from the time it was just a foundation in the ground. Hugo built that beautiful A frame Tyrolien cottage from discarded wood and pallets that REFF probably threw away. Hugo was a skilled carpenter at a whole different level! To this day we still use a pair of sallad tongs that he made from teak back in the 90´s, a testament to the quality of what he did. I am certainly no carpenter, but Hugo inspired med to build things, and when ever I am finished with something, I wonder if Hugo would have said”good job Marty” I have always loved the coziness of their backyard and have tried to emulate that my house. I was over to visit Hugo And Irmi three years ago and I remember him saying to me then ” three more years Marty, then I think I’m gonna pack it in” What man! What a life! Thanks Hugo for everything!

Some a beautiful and accurate description of a humble, loving and lovable man! Loved his dancing skills and his calm and quiet demeanor. His intelligence and creativity was obvious once you looked into his kind eyes. Every one of you have my most heartfelt condolences.
