Leslie E. Matthews
1947- 2024

Leslie E. Matthews, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather peacefully passed
away while surrounded by loved ones at BGH on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. He was born in Birmingham,
England on September 11, 1947.
In his youth, Leslie embraced outdoor pursuits such as golfing, bowling, camping, and fishing with his
loved ones. Over time, his deep appreciation for nature led him to discover a passion for wildlife
photography and painting, through which he skillfully captured the beauty of the natural world.
Leslie adored his role as a grandfather to five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in
death by his dear parents, Victor and Olive Matthews, his sister Linda Walter (nee Matthews), and
brothers Peter Matthews. Leslie will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Pat Matthews (Polupski),
their children Denise (Terry) Syms, Christopher Matthews, and their families, including grandchildren
Matthew, Victoria (Jason), Felicity, Trinity, and Maranda, as well as great-grandson Logan. He will also be
remembered fondly by his brother Bob (Wendy) Matthews, sister Penny (John) Tucker, John Walters,
Ken Polupski, Larry (Jana) Polupski, Lorne Polupski and their families.
In keeping with Leslie’s wishes, cremation will occur, followed by a private family celebration of life
later. Those who wish to honor Leslie’s memory may consider donating to the Lung Cancer Association
or St. Mary’s Parish Saint Vincent de Paul.
Leslie’s kindness, creativity, and deep love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of all who had
the privilege of knowing him.

    My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Pat. I’m so sorry for your loss. Les taught me so many things and was such a great friend. I will cherish that friendship forever, he was just the best guy ever. He will always be in my heart. Rest in peace my friend.

    I worked with Les at Raymond Industrial for a number of years till its closure, and also knew him from the Brant Camera Club, he was a talented photographer. So sad to hear, Rest in Peace Les.
