GAMBLE, James
Jim left this life December 6, 2018 just as he’d lived it — with love and courage. Courtly and considerate to the end, he died peacefully at 84 after a mercifully short bout with esophageal cancer, while family eased his transition from the wonderfully supportive comfort of the BGH palliative unit. A family service will be held in the new year, and donations may be made to the BGH. Cherished by wife and soulmate Loreen, Jim leaves a lasting legacy in his six sons, the Gambles: Rick (Susan) and Jim (Tammy); and the Carruths: Graeme (Winnie), Mark (Katherine), David (Annette), and Lorne (Judy). Jim will also be sorely missed by his wider family, including grandchildren Stephanie (Andrew Wright), Mathew, Bryce, Phoenix and Heaven, and a host of friends. A loyal 37 year employee of Gates Rubber, Jim was an avid baseball player and fan (Go Yankees!), an ardent, excellent dancer, and seven-time president of the Navy Club. He loved his family, golf, his daily newspapers, feeding his fabulous collection of backyard birds, and wonderful winters with the love of his life in Port Aransas, Texas. Kind and polite, Jim exemplified respect, hard work, and standing up for what was right. That’s why he was so loved. This Gamble was worth it.
