JOHN LENNON – IMAGINE LYRICS

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace

You, you may say
I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world

You, you may say
I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

Funeral poems and songs don’t always have to be about grieving and saying goodbye.  They don’t always have to be sombre and forlorn.

There are a few quite unconventional songs you can play during a funeral or cremation services that don’t express the sentiments of the grieving, but rather, impart the message of those who have passed on to the living.  This message can be about finding your own adventure or happiness after the loss, continuing a legacy or supporting a good cause.

John Lennon’s “Imagine” is one of these songs.  Released in 1971, the song was inspired by several poems from Yoko Ono’s 1964 book Grapefruit.  The song basically urges all of us to imagine a world minus the barriers of borders, religion, nationality, and beliefs and to consider the possibility of detaching oneself from material possessions.

It may not be your typical funeral song, but it does seem like a fitting choice for those who have a great imagination. The piece can be played for funeral of kids, artists, visionaries and those who are able to see beyond the reality we are living in right now.  It can also be a great song for those who are staunch supporters of a great cause.
