“It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday” Performed by Boyz II Men

How do I say goodbye to what we had?
The good times that made us laugh, outweighed the bad.
I thought we’d get to see forever, but forever has blown away.
It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

I don’t know where this road is gonna lead to.
All I know is where we’ve been and what we’ve been through.
If it gets me to tomorrow, I hope it’s worth all the pain.
It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

And I’ll take with me the memories to be my sunshine after the rain.
It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

Saying goodbye to a loved one who has passed on is never easy, especially if you have so many great memories with this person.

The song performed by Boyz II Men entitled “It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday” couldn’t have expressed this sentiment better.  Written in 1975 for the movie entitled Cooley High and performed originally by G.C. Cameron, the song reflects the powerful emotions of the students when high school ends.

Straightforward yet poignant, the lyrics express the sadness and difficulty often associated with losing someone or leaving something behind.  It is no wonder that it is one of the most popular funeral songs often selected to be played in funerals and cremations services. As a matter of fact, it was even played in the funeral scene in the movie “Lethal Weapon 3”.

But the song also reminds us to remember all the good memories we have with those who passed on instead on focusing on the loss in order to move forward.

It is never easy to let go of someone and accept the reality of the loss.  But by remembering the happier days you had with them, you will constantly be reminded that they will always be in your heart.
