BROOK, RICHARD JOHN

At the age of 80, a resident of Etobicoke, passed away quietly on Sunday, July 15, 2012 after complications from surgery. He was born August 8, 1931, in Buffalo, NY to the late Richard Edward and Susan (Bos) Brook; the husband of the late Christine (Dittrich) Brook and companion of Ms. Janice Willis. From 1954 Mr. Brook worked for Dupont of Canada in several capacities, first as a regional sales representative then as export sales manager before being appointed as Dupont’s personnel manager, completing his career as the Director of Public Affairs and Communications from 1979 until his retirement in 1990. He was a graduate of Montreal West High School (1950) and McGill University (1954) where he played football for the Redmen. He was an active member of the Quebec Football Referees Association in the 1960’s and 1970’s allowing him to continue his love of football. He enjoyed his many summers at Lac Papineau, QC and was an avid sailor of the Caribbean Sea. Mr. Brook and his late wife, Christine, were officers of the condominium association at their home on Islington Ave. Richard (Dick) is survived by the children from his first marriage to Glen (Oxley) Brook: Jill Brook of Beaconsfield, QC, Rick Brook of Darien, CT, Lori Brook of Oakville, ON, William Brook Calgary, AB and by his grandchildren Caitlin and Kiel Howden, Christopher, Kyra and Avery Brook, Heather Brook and Gordon Brook and the many relatives of the Meyer, Bos and Brook families. A private celebration of Richard Brook’s life for friends, family and neighbours will take place Sunday, July 22nd, 2pm at his home. Interment of Mr. Brook’s ashes will take place at the Mount Royal Cemetery, Montreal, at a later date.
